About

## My Approach

I am **Nerea Lindosa**, a bilingual General Health Psychologist (Psicóloga General Sanitaria) specialised in neurodivergence.

My professional journey has passed through very different contexts: clinical, educational, social, inside and outside Spain.

Working with children, teenagers, adults, families, professionals and educational centres has allowed me to approach the same reality from very different places.

My arrival in the field of autism was not the result of a specialisation planned from the start. It emerged from the opportunities that kept appearing on my professional journey and from the decisions I made based on them.

That journey, longer and less linear, allowed me to learn from very different places:

1. accompanying people in their everyday environments
2. working with families
3. being part of multidisciplinary teams
4. developing my practice in different systems and countries

The experience of living and working outside my own cultural context also influenced my way of observing, listening and trying to understand before taking certain explanations for granted.
When later I was able to put a name to the [Neurodiversity Paradigm](https://neurodivergent.es/en/#paradigm), many of its ideas were already connected to a way of working I had been trying to build for a long time:

> Understanding the person as a whole, with respect, taking the context into account and asking myself not only what is happening, but also what can help.

Currently my work is especially focused on the [assessment](https://neurodivergent.es/en/assessments/) and [support](https://neurodivergent.es/en/therapy/) of neurodivergent people, or people wondering whether they might be, from a perspective that integrates clinical and neuropsychological knowledge with a **neuroaffirming** outlook.

Neurodivergence, however, does not always appear in isolation:
Anxiety, low mood, trauma, difficulties in relationships or emotional regulation and other forms of distress can coexist with physical, sensory or health aspects that also influence the person's experience.

My training and clinical experience allow me to address these difficulties without losing sight of the person as a whole.

It is not about

Denying the difficulties.
Nor about turning every difference into a strength.

It is about

Understanding with the greatest precision possible the experience of that specific person.
What is costing them.
The resources they have.
What can help them live with greater wellbeing and autonomy.
