A space to understand how you work and build tools that help you feel better, without giving up who you are.

Therapy and support

## A way of working built over time

My understanding of therapy has grown through very different contexts and through accompanying people at different stages of life.

I started working with children in their own environments, at home and at school, applying early intervention strategies alongside professionals from different disciplines. Later I worked in social services and in children and young people's mental health, where I kept deepening my understanding of the importance of intervening not only on the person, but also on what happens around them and on the relationship with the family.

That experience remains central to my practice. It allows me to work not only with neurodivergent teenagers and adults, but also with children and families, taking into account the developmental stage, the context and the relationships that are part of each person's life. It also reminds me that a difficulty cannot always be understood in isolation: the context, the demands, the available support, the relationships and the particular way each person processes what happens are also part of the therapy.

In recent years, a significant part of my practice has focused on teenagers and adults, especially autistic people with light support needs, people with a late diagnosis, or people who have been trying for some time to better understand their experience.

## Not everything that needs support needs to be corrected

Many people come to therapy after having devoted a lot of effort to trying to adapt to what was expected of them.

Sometimes the therapeutic work consists of developing new strategies or addressing difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, trauma, relationships or emotional regulation. Other times it is about understanding better what is happening, recognising limits, detecting overload, reviewing expectations or finding more sustainable ways of organising life.

Working from a neuroaffirming perspective does not mean attributing all difficulties to neurodivergence. It means taking it into account when it is part of the person's experience and making sure the intervention does not end up reinforcing the constant effort to look or act a certain way.

Therapy aims to foster wellbeing, autonomy and a more understandable, sustainable relationship with oneself and with one's environment.

## Therapy adapted to each person

You do not need a diagnosis to start a therapeutic process. Some people come knowing they are neurodivergent, others are just starting to consider it, and others simply seek help with something that is happening in their life.

Therapy can be for children, teenagers, adults or families, and it adapts to the age, the life stage and what each person wants to work on.

Sessions last 50 minutes and can take place face to face in Madrid, in the Cuzco / Chamartín area, or online, in Spanish or English. The frequency is agreed individually.

How it works

## From first contact to therapy

1. **Book your first session**

You can book a 50-minute first session directly. If you need to clarify any specific queries beforehand, we can sort them out briefly via message or, if necessary, with a short phone call.

2. **First session**

A chance for us to get to know each other, understand what has brought you to therapy and start to assess what might help you at this time.

3. **We start working**

From there, we'll work together to identify the areas that make sense to address. It isn’t always necessary to have all your goals clearly defined from the outset.

4. **A process that evolves**

Therapy is reviewed and adapted over time depending on what happens, what proves useful and the client’s current situation.
Where the process requires it, there may also be coordination with family members or other professionals.

Frequently asked questions

## Common questions about therapy

### What is therapy with children like?

With children, the work usually also involves the family and, where appropriate, coordination with the school or other professionals. The approach is tailored to the child’s age, their way of communicating and what is happening in their various environments. The aim is not to focus solely on behaviour, but to understand what may be underlying it and what changes might help.

### What is therapy with teenagers like?

Adolescence can be a particularly complex time for neurodivergent people. In therapy, we can work on identity, relationships, emotional regulation, autonomy, sensory overload, difficulties at school or any other issue causing distress. The therapeutic space aims to respect the teenager's voice and encourage them to participate in decisions about their own process.

### What is therapy with adults like?

Many adults come to therapy after years of trying to cope or following a late diagnosis. The work may focus on anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, burnout, relationships, identity, organisation, or on gaining a better understanding of certain experiences. You don’t need a diagnosis to start.

### Do you also work with families?

Yes. Sometimes supporting the family forms part of a child’s or teenager’s therapy, whilst on other occasions it may be approached as a separate process in its own right. We can work on understanding specific situations, communication, coexistence, regulation, boundaries or ways of providing support without the entire responsibility for change falling on the neurodivergent person.

### Is therapy only for neurodivergent people?

No. My practice is particularly informed by neurodiversity, but I also work with issues such as anxiety, low mood, trauma, OCD, relationships and emotional regulation. Where neurodiversity is present, I take it into account as part of the person’s experience, without assuming that it explains everything that is happening.

### What is the difference between an assessment and therapy?

An [assessment](https://neurodivergent.es/en/assessments/) aims to understand how a person’s brain works; therapy builds on that understanding to provide specific strategies, skills and support. Sometimes it is best to start with an assessment, and sometimes it is better to begin directly with therapy.
